FEAR OF DEATH

Jesus Christ Overcame Death On Calvary's Cross

DAVID WILKERSON'S PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE FROM THE FEAR OF DEATH

“ Lord, help me cut loose from the bondage of things.

Let me not squander my gift of life on my own selfish pleasures and goals.

Help me to bring all my appetites under your control.

Make me remember I am a pilgrim, not a settler.

I am not Your fan, but Your follower.

Most of all, deliver me from the bondage of the fear of death.

Make me finally understand that to die in Christ is gain.

Help me to look forward, with precious anticipation, to my moment of ultimate healing.”

DAVID WILKERSON WAS READY TO MEET HIS GOD

By Synthia Esther

Feb. 23, 2013

David Wilkerson (May 19, 1931-April 27, 2011), died in a tragic car crash, and was reported by various national news media that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Only God knows if this contributed to his death.  In reading his prayer concerning death, I truly believe David Wilkerson was released “from the bondage of the fear of death.” Another words, he was ready to meet his maker, God, as he felt he was a pilgrim on this earth not a settler.  Suffice to say, “one should always wear a seat belt”, as such precaution can help save your life, as it has mine during one such serious car accident. Wilkerson's wife, Gwen, survived the accident, however, she passed away due to cancer,  in 2012.

Wilkerson was well known for his book, “The Cross and the Switchblade”, which was made into a Hollywood movie featuring Pat Boone.  Wilkerson, was founder of Teen Challenge, which provides biblical guidance for young persons in addictions grasp.  He was the founder and former pastor of “Times Square Church”, located in Manhattan, New York.   I had the pleasure of attending Time's Square Church and can attest to Wilkerson's preaching style first hand.  He had a keen, educated knowledge of God's word.  One could sense and feel a leading of the Holy Spirit of God during his services.  Wilkerson had a serious demeanor when he preached, and his church services reflected a “Holy” atmosphere.  Needless to say, I learned much from Pastor Wilkerson concerning God's will and the need to live a life of God fearing, sanctification. While Wilkerson was firm in his resolve and preaching style, he was also one to most often convey the blessed, eternal hope we have as Christians (John 3:16-17).

In his source book for healing hurts, “Have You Felt Like Giving Up Lately”, Wilkerson addresses many topics of concern we may all, at one time or another, go through. Broken relationships, fear, loneliness, habitual sin, guilt, spiritual dryness, can cause discouragement.  He offers Biblical, scriptural promises and enlightening illustrations affirming God will help you through your struggles.

Death is one such trial and tribulation we will often have to face as loved ones pass away, and we ourselves will endure, unless we are raptured as mentioned within the Bible (1 Thess. 4:16-17; 5:9; Luke 12:40; 17:34-37; Rev. 3:10; 20:2-5; Mark 13:32; Dan. 12:1-2; 1 Cor. 15:52; Matt. 24:27-31, 42).  Wilkerson's “Honest Prayer to God”, on page 157, of this book, provides guidance, hope, courage, assurance, and faith.  Knowing, “But it is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” - (2 Timothy 1:10; Hebrews 2:14,15).  For we know that Jesus lived, and was dead, and, “behold I am alive for evermore....”. Revelation 1:18.  Because He lives, we who call Him Lord, will have life eternally too, in the home He has prepared for us in heaven (John 14:2; Phil. 3:20; Matt. 18:10; Rev. 21:4; 22:1-5) .  When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing it will be!
