THE SERENITY PRAYER

The Serenity Prayer was written by theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971), becoming wide known in 1941 when adopted in part by Alcoholics Anonymous. Serenity is often defined as a state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled. Various modifications of the original work are often given however, the most popular, in my opinion, being a three line adaptation which reads:
“God, Grant me the Serenity to Accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.”
According to Wikipedia, Niebuhr's Original Serenity Prayer Reads in Full as Follows:
“God, give me grace to accept with Serenity the things that cannot be changed, Courage to change the things which should be changed, and the Wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
“Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace. Taking as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it, Trusting that You will make all things right, If I surrender to Your Will, so that I may be reasonably happen in this life, and Supremely happy with You forever in the next.”
Amen.
1st Peter 5:7, confirms we can cast all our anxiety on Him (Jesus Christ – God) for He cares for us. Our Heavenly Father loves us unconditionally – John 3:16-17. These spiritual truths provide a peace, serenity, and calm, despite the storms. Knowing our surrender to God's will yields forth His mercy, grace, and love, to work on our behalf for our ultimate good (Gen. 50:20).
